Why Apprentice at Farmette Flowers?
Our apprenticeships provide hands-on education to future farmers and floral designers. In addition to learning floriculture and wedding arranging techniques, our apprentices become part of the extended Farmette family by working weddings, helping with beekeeping and animal care, and becoming part of the small Lyons community. We are a dynamic group of young farmers seeking self-sufficient, confident apprentices who can help us see our operation from a new point of view, and who are not afraid to provide feedback, experiment with new ways of doing things, or get their hands dirty. Learn more about the wedding venue and education center at the Lyons Farmette website.
Learn to farm flowers. You will work closely with Grant and Helen to sow seed, transplant seedlings, make compost and compost tea, prepare beds, and weed plants. You will learn harvest and post-harvest handling techniques, make market and CSA bouquets, wash lots of buckets, and support the design team in setting up weddings. Live in a restored Airstream trailer on our quiet farm, with access to our communal vegetable garden and eggs from our chickens, learn beekeeping if you are so inclined, take any of our on-farm workshops for free, plus get as much goat and alpaca love as you can handle. Live in Lyons, home of 2 world-class music festivals, close to Rocky Mountain National Park and Boulder. Paid monthly.
Learn to work with local seasonal flowers, and be part of our design team. You will work with Kim and Helen to prepare all aspects of our weddings, from bud vases and boutonnières to full-scale arch arrangements and floral curtains. Learn hand-tied bouquet techniques and floral jewelry-making. Wander the fields, learning how flowers grow and how they look naturally. Discover new varieties and how garden flowers can make an arrangement truly shine. You will be able to plant and work in our vegetable garden if you like, discover our bees, alpacas, and goats, and become part of the Farmette family. Prior floral design experience is preferred but not essential. This position is part-time, pay dependent on experience.
